Virgil was a professional wrestling character played by Mike Jones, most notably in WWE (formerly WWF) and WCW.
WWF/WWE Career: He debuted in 1987 as the bodyguard for "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. His role was primarily to protect DiBiase and often take the brunt of attacks from DiBiase's opponents. He was initially known simply as Virgil. In 1991, he famously turned on DiBiase at SummerSlam, striking him with the Million Dollar Championship belt, becoming a babyface (fan favorite). He feuded with DiBiase and even won the Million%20Dollar%20Championship.
WCW Career: He later joined WCW in 1996, initially as Vincent, the head of security for the nWo (New World Order). He was often seen alongside the nWo members, providing muscle and interfering in matches. His name "Vincent" was a play on WWF owner Vince McMahon. He later changed his name to Shane, a jab at Vince McMahon's son Shane McMahon.
Post-WCW: After WCW, Jones continued to wrestle on the independent circuit under various gimmicks, including "Curly Bill" and also returned to using the Virgil name. He also made appearances at wrestling conventions and was known for selling autographs and merchandise.
Other Notable Aspects: Virgil was known for his relatively simple in-ring style and his prominent role as a supporting character in major storylines. He gained a cult following in later years for his presence at wrestling conventions and his interactions with fans.
